Jade Regent (Derby)

Week 8

Having discovered the true ancestory of Ameiko and that a sword called Suishen would give them more info, the party hitched their wagons and headed north into the Land of the Linnorm Kings.

Along the way the party noticed they were being followed by a flock of ravens with one in particular being rather large and with red tipped wings. According to Conflagrati, that means and evil omen and are often related to serving dark powers. Spooky!

About 100 miles from Kalsgard, the caravan is attacked one night by a group of Ulfen warriors who after landing their ship attacked the caravan. Non survived and the party had a nice boat called Aril’s Hammer. Each of the attacks also had a gold lion’s head arm ring and Kelda said they are worn by men in the service of landowners, although she did not recognise that particular symbol.

Upon reaching Kalsguard the party managed to sell the boat for a nice profit and off loaded some other items.

The caravan parked in the Bone Quarter with all the other travelling caravans to avoid suspicion and the party stayed in an inn to further blend in.

Kelda thanked the party and gave them a Scabbard of Vigor and mentioned they should look her up when they leave to traverse the crown of the world although they would also need a guide to get them over there.

Asking around town the party realised elements of the criminal underground had been asking about them, but no details could be unearthed.

First point of call was Fynn Snaevald to recover the sword. However he claimed that the item had been stolen a fortnight ago. His servants were killed and one with the last words told one of the attackers was much taller than the rest and that he must “pay the lion’s due”.

Discovering that these clues most likely referred to Asvig Longthews, a minor landowner, the party headed out there to confront him. Discovering a party that night, they thought it the opportune moment to attack and easily took out the drunk warriors.

Interrogation revealed much: The men had little knowledge of where the sword was but a man called Ulf Gormundr would soon be “joining Snorri Sone-Eye,” the late Jarl who’s funeral ship was due to be set afloat the next morning.

Snorri was a famous Jarl who had many successes in southern raids into Varisia. One one trip he contracted a mysterious illness and died, but not before selling most of his things to a group called the Rimerunners Guild.

After leaving the farm the party were approached by a woman claiming to be a friend of Ulf and who was worried about him. She knew he was at the farm. She also was certain that funeral would be delayed as there would be a heavy fog the next morning. This turned out to be accurate.

Upon reaching the river, the party discovered the ship would now be sailed at sunset, and also that investigation would be impossible under the close watch of the housekarls.

The plan is made to return an hour before sunset.

Heading back to the inn, the party discover one of their rooms has been ransacked.

Week 3
Hello Brinewall!

The party left Sandpoint discussing what to do with any prisoners they might find. Koya was a little disturbed that the group even needed to talk about this. Wasn’t the caravan just going to investigate a castle? Yet leaving the small town behind seemed to perk up Koya up. She was visibly excited to be on the move.

The first few days were uneventful. Although the caravan was woken one night by the howls from the nearby trees. The guards managed to rally and drive the the werewolves off.

After a few more stops they finally arrived in Brinewall. Ameiko entered a trance like state. The healers managed to determine that she was under the influence of some force of personality although detect evil revealed nothing. It is clearly something to do with Brinewall so the NPC’s offer to care for Ameiko whilst the heroes venture forth to investigate.

The town was deserted. The buildings look to have suffered under some massive attack two decades ago. The buildings have been burnt down or destroyed. Only the graveyard with the symbol of Desna seems to have been looked after since.

A Linnorm longboat has been left in the docks with massive damage. It seems to have been left there for a few weeks. Party was attacked by 3 reef claws.

Investigating the lighthouse gave the party a rusty key. No one yet knows what for.

The approach to the castle was easy. Once the gates had been smashed down and the tree dire corby gaurds defeated, they make the choice to go upstairs where they fought a lone guard and killed one orgekin in the yard below – another escaped. The party entered what might once have been a solarium. And were attacked by a large Mobat. It was scared off but not before nearly killing the fighter.

Week 2
Goodbye to Sandpoint

So it turns out it was a group if skeletons that attacked the goblin village to recover the loot they had stolen. The treasure was nice but the most valuable thing was the letter hidden in the damaged hilt of the sword used by the samurai.

Taking their findings back to Sandpoint, they were welcomed excitedly for ending the goblin threat. Ameiko was intrigued at the news about her families past and spent the night in contemplation. The next day the party re-entered the swamp to tie up loose ends. Taking a boat they visited the site of two wrecks of ships belonging to Ameiko’s family. It seems they washed ashore in bad weather. Perhaps one group took shelter in the cave and that is where they drowned.

They then investigated the shack belonging to Old Megus and made the gruesome discovery that she had been trying to polymorph herself with disastrous results. They destroyed the decrepit building to reveal the ratling and once in the open it was easy to kill.

Once back in town Ameiko announced her intent to travel to Brinewall to find out what is in this warding box and to seek more information on her families history. She had already recruited Sandu’s caravan and Koya was desperate to take the trip. Shalelu, ever the protector of those the cares about, decided trip north would be good fun. And with the goblin threat under control, she wasn’t needed in the hinterlands for the moment.

Caravans are being bought and training of jobs under way.

Week 1
Goblin Fodder

Five of our heroes took up the call brave the Brinestump Marshes and take out the goblin threat. Taking the advice of Shalelu, the group sought out the advice of Walthus Proudstump – the self appointed “warden” of the marshes. On the way they saw evidence of a three-toed creature stalking the swap but have yet to catch sight of it. Arriving at his coastal shack, the party instead were confronted by a faceless stalker who wanted the place for himself. After trying time and to get rid of the party he instead tricked the cleric into healing him up before attacking the party.

Walthus emerged from his hiding place and thanked the party. Giving his +1 cloak of resistance to the gnome. He also wanted to tell the party all about his back story but no one asked.

Leaving the swamp and sleeping on the road was probably a good idea. The next day an attack on the goblin village was planned. However when they arrived the place looked as though it had already been attacked and the goblins were hiding. Slow to react, the goblins stormed the party in waves and were cut down in turn. Finally the party attacked Chief Gutwad and the Paladin heroically charged him yet found himself surrounded. Although the Paladin fell, he was rescued by the others.

Following the treasure trail, the group came upon a cave entrance. Entering then defeated some spiders.
